RESPONSIBILITY AND FUNCTIONS

Work under the guidance of Directors, Associates, Engineers and Head Technician to plan, design and build highways, buildings, bridges, drainage works, land developments dams, wastewater treatment systems, and other structures, as well as do related research. May assist Director/Associate/Engineer/Head Technician in preparation of Bills of Quantities for construction cost estimates, specifications of materials to be used, bar bending schedules and review of shop drawings. Preparation of drawings may include general arrangement drawings for structures, reinforcement details, topographical and relief maps used in major construction or civil engineering projects, such as highways, bridges, pipelines, flood control projects, and water and sewage systems. May perform land-surveying duties, monitor onsite construction (under the direction of a Director/Associate/Engineer) or be based onsite as a Clerk of Works.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Technical Drawing abilities or equivalent Computer Aided Design Training
• Good team player
• Able to accurately follow directions

Education and Experience

Minimum requirements:

• Certificate in Technical Drawing or Computer Aided Design
• 3 years experience as an Engineering Technician

Optional Assets:

• Autocad Certified Qualification
• Previous experience in Civil / Structural Engineering Drafting
• 5 or more years experience in Technical Drawing

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Will have to work in an office setting and use office equipment, including a computer, will require stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, Will occasionally have to work on construction sites which will require the use of certain items of safety equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

May be based in office but may also have to conduct occasional site visits where it may be necessary to monitor construction progress, review site conditions under the guidance of a Director/Associate/Engineer etc. depending on requirements of project. May be assigned as a Clerk of Works based on site.
